Detailed Function Descriptions

This page describes in detail each of the functions you could encounter while working with this application.  Click on a link below to get help with a particular function.

Basic Functions

The basic map functions can be accessed from the toolbar in the main window at the right. The following functions can be accomplished with these tools:

View the Overview Map
    • This function is used to the overview map of the city on and off.

    • Click on the "Overview Map View" button .

    • The overview map will be displayed on top of the actual map in the top left corner.

    • While the overview map is enabled, one can click on the overview map to zoom to a particular portion of the city.

    • The red rectangle in the overview map represents the current location of the map view with respect to the entire city.

    • Clicking the overview button again will disable the overview map.

Zoom In / Zoom Out
    • Zoom In - This tool allows you to zoom in to a smaller area. To zoom in, click the Zoom In button To use this tool, click once on the map to set an anchor point. Drag your mouse to define the area of interest, then release your mouse to set the rectangle.  The Current Map View will display a new image.
    • Zoom Out - To zoom out, simply click the Zoom Out button located on the toolbar.  Then click at the point where you would like the map centered.  The Current Map View will display a new image that is centered at your click location.
View the Entire City
    • This function is used to return to the view of the entire city.

    • Click on the "Full View" button .

    • The map image will re-draw displaying the entire city.

Last Extent
    • Click on the Last Extent button to go to last view of the map.

Pan around the map
    • This function is used to pan around the map.

    • Click on the "Pan" button .

    • While on the map, click and drag your mouse in any desired direction to view the map area that is currently not visible.

Hyperlink Features
    • This function is used to get detailed information about a particular monument.
    • Click on the "Hyperlink Features" button on the toolbar.
    • Click your mouse on the monument of interest.
    • The program will search for detailed information for the monument and display it in a new pop up window along with a location sketch of the monument.
